Pink Pool Night has the Go Ahead

I have finally got the go ahead for a PINK POOL NIGHT at Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre on the 28th January 2012 to help raise funds for Swimming After Surgery (SAS).

The water will be dyed pink for an hour and will disperse naturally through the pool filtration system.

I am now busy preparing posters, tickets and organising raffle prizes.  Anyone who doesn't want to wear something pink on the night is offered to pay a forfeit to help raise funds.  I already have a few takers for this option.

So this busy bee is now off to get things organised.

Best wishes to you all.

A very Busy Day

I have had a very busy day today.

I help Ican2 which is a local community group for children with disabilities.

In the morning we have a session for younger children and in the afternoon a session for the older children up to the age of 18.

If the weather is nice the session is held on the track at Oakengates Leisure Centre.  This gives the children lots of space to do various activities.

Some like quiet time to do creative crafts.  Others like to go on bikes, go carts or hand bikes etc.  In the middle of the track there is a pitch where the children can play cricket, football or other activities that they choose.

Today the weather held for both sessions which was extremely fortunate.

Just as we were packing the equipment away and signing people out the rain arrived.

In the evening there is a session at Newport Swimming Pool which allows the children to gain confidence in the water and play with sea scooters if they wish.  A separate lane is set up to do this and is supervised by 3 adults made up of staff/volunteers.

To see the children smile and progress is an amazing feeling.

I am tired but today has been so worthwhile.

Procrastination or not?

How many times a day do you ponder on whether to do something or not.

Have an idea not sure if it will work - worried about failure or whether what you have in mind is good enough for the target audience?

I suspect many of you reading this will have experienced these feelings. Do you overcome them or shelve your plans to another time? If you shelve your plans this could be classed as procrastination. Others could say that you are ensuring that the idea is perfect before you tackle it or send it off.

I try and go with my ideas and plans whether they work out or how other people view them or me.

Sometimes I am like a bull in a china shop, wound up like a spring and just want to get on with my ideas.

Other things take me ages to learn and it is then I have self doubt and worry whether I am good enough to tackle the task in front of me. An example of this is that it took me three weeks to get to grips with creating buttons for a website and I have finally achieved this. I may be slow but at least I am achieving something as I go along.

The New Year has spurred me on to achieve my goals of which I have got lots.

I look forward to ticking things off my list as the year progresses.

Best wishes to everyone and Happy New Year

This will make you think

I have come across this blog http://mhee-free.blogspot.com/
it is an ambitious plan and journey raising money along the way for charity.

What a time of year to pick to do this challenge. I hope he makes it and survives the cold weather.

Update CV

I really need to start updating my CV.

The last twelve months have been really busy. Coming up with ideas and moving forward.

Volunteering has kept me going and now I am slowly heading a direction I want to go in.

I have attended a few courses, taken online tests and attended various training and awareness sessions. This means certificates of what I have achieved will be put in the folder I have now set up and organised recently.

I just hope I can manage to pass my web design course. I just need to steady my nerves and get on with the assessment on the night.

One thing now is a blessing in that my swimming course does not clash with the web design assessment week which at one point they did. The reason for this is the swimming coaching course has been cancelled.

I will undertake the training later in the New Year hopefully once a place is booked for me.

I will have to update my CV in case any of the places I volunteer at require it and also it will do me good to adapt it with a sense of achievement rather than look back with nothing changed on it.

I am busier now than when I worked full time - hard to believe but it is true.

The advantage is I can still attend hospital appointments without letting anyone down as what I do is in the evening or early morning or happens at a weekend.

Above all else I count my blessings everyday.

Keep warm and keep well everyone.
